The eighth MOH Physiotherapy Conference signals that physiotherapy is becoming increasingly important to Malaysia’s health-system reform, spanning prevention, recovery and continuous care rather than beginning only after illness or injury.

Held in Langkawi, Kedah, from 7 to 10 September 2026, the conference carried the theme “Bridging Care and Innovation: Transforming the Future of Healthcare.” RTM reported that more than 500 physiotherapists, academics and industry participants gathered to discuss innovation and the future of rehabilitation.

RM7.91 Million to Strengthen Physiotherapy Services

MOH announced RM7.91 million to acquire 535 new medical assets for physiotherapy facilities nationwide. The asset types, receiving locations and implementation timetable were not detailed in the public reports reviewed.

From Treating Disease to Comprehensive Care

Deputy Director-General of Health (Medical), Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob, emphasised a shift from disease treatment alone towards health promotion, prevention, rehabilitation and continuous care. Strategically, this broadens physiotherapy across hospitals, homes, workplaces, communities and hybrid-care models.

AI, Robotics and Telerehabilitation

MOH urged physiotherapists to use AI, robotics and telerehabilitation. The official programme included AI-based postural assessment, 3D posture analysis, rehabilitation robotics, assistive technology, cardiac and sports rehabilitation, neurology, women’s health and workplace ergonomics. The central message was that technology should empower rather than replace human contact.

What This Means for the Profession

  • Physiotherapy will engage earlier in prevention and remain involved longer in recovery.
  • Responsible digital practice will become a professional competency.
  • Functional, mobility, pain and quality-of-life outcomes must become clearer.
  • Clinical reasoning, communication, empathy and trust will become more valuable.

World PT Day 2026 similarly focuses on physiotherapy and physical activity in preventing, managing and rehabilitating cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Physiomobile’s Perspective

Physiomobile sees strategic alignment with challenges it has worked on since 2016: access, continuity, coordination and bringing care closer to communities. Digital systems can support bookings, therapist availability, case matching, payment, communication and follow-up while physiotherapists remain responsible for treatment and clinical decisions.

This conference announcement is not official government endorsement of Physiomobile or any private provider. The alignment is with a model that is clinician-led, technology-enabled and delivered closer to the patient.

What It Means for Physiomobile Partners

Partners should practise evidence-based care, document baselines and outcomes consistently, use technology responsibly, treat according to clinical suitability, support continuity and preserve empathy in every session.

The future of physiotherapy extends beyond the treatment room into patients’ homes, workplaces, communities and digital systems that connect each need with a suitable physiotherapist.
